555 circuits (Engineer's mini-notebook) Forrest M Mims
Publisher: Radio Shack
The original design is the "Stepped Tone Generator" taken from the "Engineer's Mini-Notebook - 555 Circuits" by Forrest M. I agree with you, the little schematic on the back of the RadioShack 555 box says 5k for the resistors so unless RadioShack lied, it should be 5k. I previously posted about Forrest M. Name for a simple circuit that I first described as a "Sound Synthesizer" in Engineer's Notebook: Integrated Circuit Applications (1980) and then a "Stepped Tone Generator" in Engineer's Mini-Notebook: 555 Circuits (1984). Forrest M Mimms has a 555 touch circuit on Page 12 of Volume 1 of The Engineer's mini-Notebook. "Create & experiment with pulse generators, oscillators, and time delays." 2.
